Introduction:
  1.  Of all the thoughts a man will have, his most important 
thought is what he thinks when he thinks of God.  

  1. Ultimately, his concept of God will guide his actions.  
  2. These thoughts of God permeate into all aspects of his 
life affecting all of his actions. 
  1. Thus, it is extremely important for him to correctly think 
about God.


  1. “Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the 
mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of 
his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he 
understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises 
loving-kindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I 
delight in these things” (Jer. 9:23-24).

1.   Our boasting is not to be in things but in the one true God.
2.   Significance and security are found in relationship (knowing and understanding) the one true God not in self or stuff.  When you are in a relationship with someone, you know and understand the person.

  1. “Therefore, so that I would not become arrogant, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to trouble me – so that I would not become arrogant. I asked the Lord three times about this, that it would depart from me. But he said to me, “My grace is enough for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” So then, I will boast most gladly about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may reside in me. Therefore I am content with weaknesses, with insults, with troubles, with persecutions and difficulties for the sake of Christ, for whenever I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:7b-10).​

I.   Introduction
    A.  Red Belt in karate is the highest rank for a child may obtain.  It consists of 
        1.  200 push-ups
        2.  200 sit-ups
        3.  1 mile run
        4.  History of karate exam
        5.  Technique critique
        6.  30 technique kata
        7.  Essay on attitude
    B.  Today, we will look at Nathan’s essay on attitude and then discuss its             application to our lives.

II.  Essay – Nathan Copeland
“Attitude is defined by Webster’s dictionary as:  the way you think and feel about someone or something affecting a person’s behavior.  I think that definition is a good start to a discussion about attitude.  Attitude is the most important aspect of training in karate, and in a lot of other things in life.  A good attitude requires discipline and training.    For me, God is a defining part of my attitude.  He knows my heart and my thoughts (both good and bad) and is a driving force in my choices.  I am not perfect, but God is the source of my strength and successes in life.  Phil 4:8 defines for me a good attitude:  “…whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praise-worthy- think on these things.”  I desire to make choices and portray an attitude that glorifies God, my family, my country and my sport.
